Happy Cinco de Mayo! Hope you all had a great week! Mine was busy, busy, busy! I’m rounding up five of my favorites from the week and linking up with Erika, Andrea and Narci for another edition of Friday Favorites! If you get a minute, pop by their blogs and say hi!
First up on my list of favorites, my daughter had her 15th birthday recently! What?! And to really make me feel old, she also got her driver’s permit. I’m so excited for her to enter this new stage of her life where she gets to have a little more independence, but it’s also kind of scary letting go. For those who have already been there, advice please! Here are a few pictures that I took right after she passed the permit test, and also of her birthday celebration…
“Hey Mom, can I drive us home?”
Here’s Katie at her birthday party, checking out the little amphibian one of her friends gave her as a joke…
and with her real present, a blue Beta fish that she named Thai…
Next up, now that the weather is getting warmer I need to tell you about these awesome denim shorts that I found. They are definitely a new favorite and I’m pretty sure I’ll be living in these this summer. They are super comfy, have just the right amount of stretch, and I love the distressing on them. Also, the cuffs are permanently tacked up on the sides so they don’t get all messed up when you wash them, which is a big win in my book! (psst… they’re only $39!) And if you’re looking for denim shorts with a frayed hem, I love this pair!
So, I’ve been eyeing these slip-on Converse for a long time. I kept talking myself out of them, though, because my teenage daughter wears Converse all the time, so it’s felt like one of those items that was off-limits to me. I make up little rules in my head about these things all the time. (the same goes for rompers – I think they’re adorable, but can I pull it off? Or should I just leave it to the younger generation and call it good?) Anyway, I saw the Converse Shorelines on sale the other day when I was out shopping and decided to take the plunge. Breaking rules is my favorite 😉
I was talking to one of my friends in my neighborhood recently about the dreaded “mom guilt”. We’ve all fallen victim to it – worried that we aren’t doing enough, feeling bad about not being able to be in two (or three, or four…) places at once, stressing over expectations that we may have set for ourselves that we feel we’re not living up to. Once again, Rachel over at Hands Free Mama gets it exactly right. Her blog is one of my favorite places to visit for inspiration, so go grab another cup of coffee and check out what she has to say about letting go of the guilt once and for all.
In case you missed it, this week I posted a little trip review on my recent girls’ getaway to Miami Beach. One of my favorite things about this blog is that it gives me the chance to share recommendations that might come in handy in case you’re planning your own trip somewhere that I’ve been. Read all about the trip here, and comment below with any questions you might have!
Thanks for stopping by today – I hope you have a great weekend! Ours is jam packed, so I’ll have lots to share with you next week!
