What's Up Wednesday

What’s Up Wednesday

April was such a busy month, and it doesn’t look like things will slow down much in May – 0ur calendar is full! To recap what’s been going on around here lately, I’m joining Shay, Sheaffer and Mel for another edition of What’s Up Wednesday! Once a month we all link up to answer these questions:

what we’re eating:

Some of our favorites from the month were this Quinoa Burrito Bowl:

I serve it with guac, salsa and cheese for toppings and we use tortilla chips to scoop up all of the yumminess:

These Lemon Cookies (made from a cake mix base – so easy!) were also a big hit:

And the kids are always excited when I make my Pineapple and BBQ Chicken Naan PizzaIt’s a Friday night favorite around here!

what i’m reminiscing about:

My recent girls’ trip to Miami! I’ve only been back home for two days, but I’m already craving more Florida sunshine. Check out the heart-shaped cloud hanging out over our hotel pool:

what i’m loving:

My daughter created some watercolor art to hang in her bathroom, and I love her creativity. I think she should start an ETSY shop, but that might just be a proud mama talking. Both my mom and my mother-in-law are talented artists, so she must get it from them!

what we’ve been up to:

Katie just got back from a trip to NYC with her high school orchestra, and then she had her 15th birthday! While she was in NYC, I was on the Miami trip, so the boys stayed home and did guy things. And before that, one of Katie’s best friend’s from Virginia was here for a visit over Easter weekend, and we were nonstop from morning until night! Busy! But it’s been all good things, so I’ll take it!

what i’m dreading:

I don’t think that anything falls into the “dread” category right now – thank goodness 🙂

what i’m working on:

Growing this space! I recently added a new style series called “In Search Of” – a place where I help readers shop for special event outfits or specific pieces they’re looking to add to their closet. Check it out here! And if there’s anything that you’re currently in search of that you’re having a hard time finding, email me or comment below. I love to help people shop, so let me know if you have any requests!

what i’m excited about:

The kids start summer vacation right before Memorial Day weekend this year, so I’m really excited about some unscheduled downtime, a visit from my mom, and a couple of fun trips we have planned!

what i’m watching/reading:

It was a long, long read (close to 800 pages!), but I finally finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. We read it for our neighborhood book club, and luckily everyone was in the same boat as me in not having enough time to finish it before our originally scheduled meeting, so we decided to give ourselves an extra week. Definitely different than the kind of book I’m normally drawn to, but that’s why book club is good for me. That, and the chance to get together with the ladies and drink wine 😉

As for what I’ve been watching, crazily enough my husband and I got sucked in to The Great British Baking Show one night when we were perusing the Netflix menu, and we just finished the first season. Who knew baking could be so dramatic? I guess I’m a sucker for any kind of Reality TV!

what i’m listening to:

Lots of Billy Joel in preparation for going to his concert Friday night! Hooray! Only two more days!

what i’m wearing:

I found this cute work-out top at Target a few weeks ago, and it fits perfectly into the athleisure look that I’ve been embracing for casual days around the house or running errands (side note: it looks like it’s only available in white now, but I found more great color options here in a similar style). what i’m doing this weekend:

We already had a small family celebration for my daughter’s birthday, but this weekend we’re taking her and a group of her friends out to dinner for celebration #2. We also have a neighborhood 5k Run that we signed up for, with a BBQ after. Hoping to not embarrass myself too much during the race – there are some serious runners in this neighborhood! It’s been almost a year since we moved here, but I’m still trying to get used to all of the hills!

what i’m looking forward to next month:

Lots going on next month to look forward to – end of year orchestra concerts for both kiddos (on the same night no less, should be interesting…), my son’s and my husband’s birthdays, a North Georgia Wine Trail day trip with some of the fabulous ladies in the neighborhood, and a trip up to Virginia to visit good friends (re-scheduled after Spring Break weather chaos played havoc on our plans…) I’m excited for all of it!

what else is new:

I have to say that I think I’ve covered just about everything! Stay tuned for lots of new stuff coming to the blog in May –  including my Girls’ Guide to a (Laid-Back) Miami Beach Vacation!
