Friday Favorites

Happy First Friday of April! As usual, I’m linking up with  ErikaAndrea and Narci today for Friday Favorites! These awesome ladies are always on the top of my list of blogs to visit, so if you get a minute after you’re done here, pop on over and see what they’ve been up to. Lots to share this week, so let’s get started…

Move over cupcakes, it’s all about bundt cakes these days. Or so it seems. Am I the only one just now realizing this is a trend? A Nothing Bundt Cakes recently opened near us, so I stopped in for the first time a few days ago and left with two of their “bundtlets” – one lemon and one red velvet. They’re advertised as a single-serving size, but were perfect for cutting into fours so that we could all have a sample. Verdict? Delicious. A new favorite for sure. And since it’s birthday season around here – my daughter in a few weeks and my husband and son both in May, I think I know where I’ll be ordering their cakes from!

Friday Favorites Two

Driveway tennis with this guy on a gorgeous spring day was another favorite from my week for sure – and just about the perfect speed for me since I lack the coordination to have any kind of success on a regular tennis court (there’s a reason why running is my sport – one foot in front of the other is about all I can handle). Erik is about to start taking tennis lessons again, though, so maybe he can teach me a thing or two.

Favorite Things Three

I pulled out a few of our favorite Easter decorations this week and I love how they brighten up the room. Our family room gets very little light during the day, so small touches of spring here and there are a nice distraction for now. Up next on our list of house projects is to actually have two windows installed on either side of the fireplace to try to remedy the situation. I hope it helps – stay tuned for updates!

Friday Favorites Four

My favorite one-stop shop for all things beauty related is Ulta, and I have to admit that I rarely make it past the sample section without grabbing a new product (or two) to try. My daughter and I popped in a few days ago as part of her pre-birthday shopping extravaganza, and this mini palette by Smashbox was calling my name. It’s a good mix of neutrals, with a few dramatic shades thrown in for fun. I have two get-aways planned for this month, and I’m thinking this will be the perfect thing to toss in my travel make-up bag.

In other shopping news, I innocently went on to the Gap website last week to order more pants to get my son through the rest of the school year, and this adorable softspun cold-shoulder top jumped right into my shopping cart. The lovely UPS man delivered it a few days ago, and it’s a keeper. I love it because it’s a soft jersey knit material – basically a dressy t-shirt – so it can be worn casual with jeans and sandals, or fancied up a bit with the right accessories. I was also intrigued by their new Scuplt Denim line, so I threw a pair of these jeans into my cart just to try them out. Well, they’ve already won a place in my heart. They’re nicely fitted, with just the right amount of stretchiness. They’re giving my other pair of favorite jeans a run for their money.

Favorite Things Five

We were able to sneak in a family hike this week and the weather was absolute perfection. Living so close to the mountains is a definite favorite! Look how gorgeous the sky looks in this picture that I snapped before we made our way to the trail:

And here are the kids stopping to admire the view before we finished the climb to the top:

I hope everyone had a good week! What were some of your favorites? Comment below and share your highlights!

Was curious about Nothing Bundt Cakes. One just opened in Skokie next to the new Home Goods! That’s a double find! Maybe a trip is in order for a dessert I will bring to Easter dinner. On another shopping note…thank you for your recommendation on the Moroccan Oil Dry Texture Spray. Love it. The Two Faced mascara really does plump lashes. Mine have become less than over the years so it is great. THANKS! I like the idea of adding windows to the family room. That’s a project!

We’re definitely going to hire someone to help us tackle the windows project – we’re handy, but we know our limits! So glad you liked the beauty products recommendations – it’s fun to find new things that work like they’re supposed to! And yes, Nothing Bundt Cakes would be perfect for an Easter dessert 🙂
