Happy Friday everyone! And how lucky are we that St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday this year?! I’m excited to once again be linking up with Erika, Andrea and Narci to share my weekly round-up of favorites…
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we’re going to start things off with a tribute to one of my favorite once-a-year indulgences. Yes, I’m talking about the Shamrock Shake. My daughter and I held our breath pulling up to the drive-thru a few days ago because if there’s one thing we’ve learned moving around from state to state, it’s that not all McDonald’s are created equal. Seriously, how can they not understand the importance of including this seasonal favorite on their menu? Anyway, apparently we picked a good place for our forever home because no one looked at us funny when we ordered them. I think I drank mine in about five minutes, but it was oh so tasty while it lasted. (Click here for more of my St. Patrick’s Day inspired favorites!)
Liane Moriarty is one of my favorites authors – in fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve read everything she’s written. Big Little Lies came out a few years ago, and I think I cruised through it in just a few days. She is one of those writers that adds the perfect amount of details and insights into her characters, and makes you really feel like you could be friends with them. I was super-excited to recently discover that HBO has turned Big Little Lies into a miniseries – we are on episode 3 right now, and I have to say that Reese Witherspoon is killing it as Madeline. It’s a great cast all around – Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, and Laura Dern, to name just a few. I read the book just long enough ago that if the miniseries version is taking any liberties with the characters or the plot, I haven’t noticed. It’s my new “let’s get comfy on the couch with a glass of wine” favorite right now. You should check it out!
I wouldn’t be a true friend if I didn’t tell you about these skinny jeans. They’re my new favorites – so stretchy and comfy, and you can easily bend down to pick something up or tie your shoe without fear of showing off your unmentionables #justsayin
Now that The Bachelor has wrapped up, I’m excited to fill the Reality TV void with the new season of Dancing with the Stars starting next week (clearly I’m falling directly into the trap set by the programming executives. Nicely played ABC, nicely played). Looks like it’s going to be a great cast! And Peta is back! My money is on Simone Biles for the mirror ball. I mean, really, isn’t it always the gymnasts? They go into the competition with a clear advantage. I’d be worried if I was Mr. T. Although he could surprise us. I guess that’s what keeps me watching!
Watching my daughter Katie run track is a for sure favorite of mine! (although it was 35 degrees outside for this week’s meet – not a favorite! We moved to the south for a reason, and I have to say I feel a bit betrayed.) Even in the bitter cold, it’s so fun to see how fast these kids can cruise around that track. Katie leaves me in the dust every time we run sprints together, and she placed first and second in her heat for two of her three events. Here she is in action (look for the blonde ponytail):
And here’s her cheering section all bundled up in the stands. Look at how we are dressed (not pictured: heavy-duty sleeping bags over our legs) and then look at the bare arms on those poor girls. Brrr! Luckily all of Katie’s events were under a minute long, so she was able to pile on the layers in-between runs. I think I’m still thawing out!
