Must-Have Pieces for a Beach Vacation
I’ve never been a natural at minimalist packing. In fact, I would plant myself firmly in the category of chronic over-packer. The one with the extra-large suitcase standing at the check-in counter at the airport praying that when I find the strength to heave it up onto the scale it will somehow magically weigh less than 50 pounds. Lately, though, I’m trying to turn over a new leaf and fully embrace the concept of carry-on luggage, and I’ve had a few successful trips recently that have given me hope that maybe I’m not a lost cause after all.
One of the keys to successful packing for a beach vacation is to include pieces that can be mixed and matched to create casual daytime outfits along with dressier looks for night. Maxi dresses and sundresses are great for this – they can be worn sightseeing during the day with simple jewelry and flats, and then dressed up for a fancy dinner out by simply switching to a statement necklace and a pair of wedges. Two pairs of shorts – one black and one white – can be worn with either casual tees or dressier tops to make several different looks, and packing at least one lightweight sweater option for warding off cool evening breezes is always a good idea. Also, a colorful wrap doesn’t take up much room in a suitcase, but it can be used in so many different ways – you can wear it as a sarong when you’re at the pool, around your shoulders for a walk on the beach if you feel like you’re getting too much sun, or over a dress to keep warm in a chilly restaurant. I’ve assembled a collection of great pieces that would all be terrific options for a beach getaway – check them out below if you are in need of some Spring Break shopping inspiration (the item descriptions are all clickable links that will give you more details about where to buy).
